Like a lot of people I won’t be happy without my smart phone but I think it is important to find a healthy balance between using your phone and letting it use you. Smart phones are really useful tools but I think it is important to take a break from them especially during sleep. Lack of sleep can result in a higher risk of chronic health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, anxiety, depression and even weight gain. This is because sleep deprivation causes your body to produce high levels of cortisol, a stress hormone which increases your appetite. These phones have bright screens and are a distraction at night that can interfere with sound sleep. I suggest turning all your electronic devices off at night. You will notice your energy levels increase dramatically during the day, not mention your mood. Yes, a sound sleep at night affects your mood too. You will be a much happier and fun person if you put in an adequate amount of sleep at night. So, what is an adequate amount of sleep? According, to webmd.com, adults need at least 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep at night unless you will have difficulty concentrating along with mood problems. You might argue that you are too busy and can function with less but do you really just want to be functional or do you want to enjoy your day and be a lot more productive? I am an developer and technology/programming is my passion but I think that all life is a balancing act and everything is good in moderation. Technology is a tool that enhances life, so please don’t let it overrun it.
